BIENVENUE CHEZ PELTIER

My Story

14 years ago, I baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies to give to the first of my high school friends who was leaving for college. 10 years ago, alone in a foreign country and missing my family, I baked cinnamon rolls to remind me of home. 7 years ago my then-boyfriend tasted bread I baked for the first time and told me that it was one of the first times he'd had good bread since leaving France for America. 3 years ago, I married said boyfriend, and baked hundreds of cookies as wedding favors. Like so many others, baking is my favorite way of showing love, of challenging my creativity, of working out my emotions.

But then, 1.5 years ago, I went vegan and at first it threw my baking for a bit of a loop. I was disappointed with the quasi-healthy recipes one often finds first when searching for vegan baking - sugar free, gluten free, oil free, everything free! Which is not to say that these recipes are bad, but when I bake, I want the real thing - full fat, full flavor, fully indulgent. So I dove into vegan baking with a passion, and I think I'm really starting to get the hang of it. I'm back to baking at full speed, showing my love through cakes, pies, bread - my motto is, "anything you can bake, I can bake vegan."

My married name is Jamie Peltier, so that's why the blog is called Chez Peltier. These are recipes that come from the Peltier home - more specifically from our weirdly-laid out, dimly lit kitchen. I'm not a professional chef, obviously, I'm just having fun, and my skills as a photographer are clearly lacking. Thank you for bearing with me, and I hope you'll give the recipes a go, in spite of unpolished appearances. I just want to share the (vegan) love!
